Wheat germ bread & other random food

I knew I was behind on blogging, but gosh it's bad when you sit down and can't even remember what bread is in the picture.... I had to flip through the book.

Wheat Germ Bread - pretty basic whole wheat bread. I suppose it was made healthier by the wheat germ, but other than that, I wasn't really impressed. It was not one of the better basic bread recipes I've eaten.

Jambalaya sounds yummy to me, but I've always steered away from making it, because it usually calls for seafood and sausage, as well as Cajun seasoning. Somehow I thought you had to buy Cajun seasoning from down South. Then one Wednesday morning, I was looking for a recipe that used hot dogs and rice.

(I can't make up my mind about hot dogs. They're full of nasty stuff but they taste good and they're cheap. -sigh- So I buy a few packages on sale and then go for months vowing never to buy them again.)

Anyway, I found a recipe that called for hot dogs, rice, onion, canned tomatoes, and Cajun seasoning, and it sounded good. I looked online for Cajun seasoning recipes and lo and behold, the ingredients were exactly the same as a seasoning mix I keep pre-made to sprinkle on chicken and fish. The recipe (which I can't find now, sorry!) turned out very tasty.

It's basically a can of diced tomatoes with a diced and cooked onion, and as much Cajun seasoning as you want, plus rice and hot dog slices.
I was making a smoothie and suddenly a piece broke on my Bosch. It was very tragic but fortunately the Bosch store had a replacement part. My model was discontinued a couple of decades ago, so you just never know....
I've been re-filling the freezer. I pitted and froze our cherry crop, and I'm about to freeze a couple heads of celery I found on sale. I made corn dog muffins again. They're good with ketchup. Nathan says to tell you, "They're delicious, as usual."

It's canning season, too. I bought a lug of peaches and they should be ready to can on Monday. :-)

I never thought of jambalaya with hot dogs, but it's a good (and cheap) idea. I like to buy the all beef kosher hot dogs when they go on sale and put them in the freezer.

I waver back and fourth on the dogs too, only at our house they are the tofu dogs. I won't buy them forever and then something for the kids, like the family bbq at scout camp where everyone is eatting dogs and I just don't want my kids to feel like they stick out too much. So I buy them, being summer it happens more. Oh well! :) Im not one for jambalaya but I LOVE gumbo!! Okra gumbo is my favorite!

I hope you are keeping track of all the make-again bread recipes and what you have done to change them. I think you could easily publish your own cook book. You are an amazing baker and cook and I would love some of your 'recipes'!

I had no idea you could freeze celery! Do you freeze the whole head, in stalks or chiop it up? I'd love to know! Thank you!

Heather - You chop it first. You don't have to blanch it, but if you do, you can keep it longer. It won't be crunchy when you defrost it so plan on using in soup, etc.
