French toast sticks

One of Saturday's projects was a batch of French toast sticks for the freezer. I started with oatmeal bread and made a half batch....except that I let the bread soak too long and had to make more of the mixture. So I ended up doing a full batch of mixture with half the amount of bread.

I'm never making these again. When the directions say to use nonstick spray, DO IT. Even if you're using a nonstick pan. By the third sheet, I was using a brand new nonstick cookie sheet that was well greased with oil, and they still stuck. Way too much work to pry them off the sheet.

I also wasn't impressed with the taste, but I'm the wrong person to ask. I don't like French toast. I was making these for Nathan. He said they tasted fine and he could taste the pumpkin and spices. So take my opinion with a grain of salt.
This is a seriously embarrassing before/after photo. My grandma would be appalled at the poor job I do at housecleaning. I keep up with dishes, laundry, the bathroom, etc., but I don't vacuum my baseboards faithfully and I don't clean my cabinets/walls regularly. I never noticed how dirty my kitchen cupboards were getting until recently. It was a top priority project this weekend. The top is after I washed it. Isn't it disgusting?
I won a slow cooker cookbook on a blog recently, and I almost followed a recipe exactly in this yummy dinner. It was a whole chicken with vegetables, liquid, and seasonings. It was very tasty.

Mmm...crockpot chicken. Yeah those french toast sticks sound like too much work. And I'm pretty sure Grandma would be appalled at most people's housekeeping. ;)

My toddler is nuts about those French toast sticks! But you're right, you have to coat the pans with a TON of cooking spray for them not to stick. My friend suggested using stoneware and said they didn't stick at all.
