I did splurge on a few things to make luscious food, but I couldn't convince myself to buy french fried onions for $3/can. I tried making my own and they were SOOO good and really quite easy.
I also chose not to buy cream of mushroom soup (although that was more about controlling the ingredients). I just kinda improvised on the green bean casserole and it came out tasty.
I made white flour pie crust so I wouldn't upset my hosts' taste buds too much. ;) This is apple pie. I took a jar of canned apples and added tapioca and random other stuff. I can't even remember what now. It was tasty although I shouldn't have pre-baked the crust.
I cooked up a massive pumpkin a few days prior so I could make pumpkin pies. I actually did follow a recipe for these pies.
I hate candied yams but love sweet potatoes, and last year I tasted a sweet potato casserole that was good. I found a random recipe online and even Nathan liked it. I'm definitely making it again.
I made fruit salad too, but that didn't deserve a picture. It's fruit. You've seen it before. I tried so hard to clean up as I went but ran out of time toward the end. I was glad to be going elsewhere to eat, so I could leave a mess.

"I just love being in my kitchen for hours on a holiday!" - That would have been said sarcastically at my house, but I know you truly mean it. You are absolutely amazing to make all that food and most of it from scratch. That sweet potato casserole looks so yummy. You need to post the 'recipe' or at least your estimate of ingredients :)
That last picture came out cute!
I love all the food pictures you take. You have way more patience than I do in the kitchen. The pies looked yummy! I like the last pic too!
