I normally make brownies from a mix - it has to be name brand and I always add baking chips - chocolate, butterscotch, peanut butter, mint, raspberry, or some combination. I make the fudge-like recipe. They are yummy and easy.
I have no mixes in my house right now for various reasons. Last night I had to bake birthday treats for work, so I hauled out my ancient chocolate cookbook that I inherited when a friend died, and tried a new recipe.
They taste okay, not as good as my normal ones...but they took forever to mix (slightly complex recipe) and when I thought about it, I don't think they cost any less. I always buy the mixes on sale for 89 or 99 cents and my baking chips are bought in bulk or on sale.
While it is nice to know exactly what's in them (no additives!), they still aren't healthy with all that sugar and fat. I'm wondering what you guys think, do brownies taste better from mix or from scratch? Take my poll on the right and leave me a note if you want!

I really couldn't tell you which tastes better, mix or scratch. I think mixes have come a long way. My mom always made them from scratch and they were delish, but more importantly, the batter was DELISH! You probably don't eat batter with raw eggs in them, but I do. I think baking brownies is a waste of yummy brownie batter! Anyway, when I left home I tried brownies from a mix (this was in the late 80s, and the batter and brownies were nowhere near as good as homemade from scratch. But these days Hershey and General Mills (Pillsbury/Betty Crocker)both make a pretty good mix and I can't tell the diff. So where do I mark BOTH on your poll?
I agree with Jason. Cherish, anything you make is wonderful. I don't think I've had anything that wasn't excellent. You are an awesome cook. I vote for both.
Being crazy about chocolate I tasted tons of brownies and hated it. But when I met your brownies, oh my gosh, I would even prefer them over German chocolate. (that's right)
I even refuse to taste or eat any other brownies than yours. That's how loyal I am to you, or your brownies.
I think the brownies from a mix taste better...more like choclate, but I guess it depends on the recipe...Robert says to tell you to make both and send them to us and we will let you know.
Any brownie is a good brownie none of my kids would turn one down
I have been converted to the "Cherrybrook" brand of mixes, not only are therir brownies great, their cake is awsome too! Plus there is no dairy or eggs in them!! :) They can be a little pricy but I have been able to find them at our Ocean State (think big lots) for much less! :) The chocolate cake mix has chocolate chips in it!! :)
I like both, but the mix brownies are certainly easier. :) I usually make mine like you do. I buy the cheap mix and then add whatever sounds good or I have on hand.
I like the mix because it is quicker and easier. I hate baking for almost an obvious reason.. I am not patient enough. But, I love that you enjoy cooking and baking so much!
hersheys best brownies...look it up(its a recipe) you will never ever ever ever ever ever make the box again my friend. Ask debbie, or anyone who has had them. So easy too!
I just love and eat them all my friend....I have the butt to prove it!
