New Beginnings Olympic cupcakes

At church, I'm currently working with the Young Women (ages 12-18). They have a program near the beginning of each year to introduce the girls that turned 12 over the last year, talk about the theme for the year, and just generally get the parents and girls psyched up for a new year. This year, we tied our program in with the Olympics. Some clever person on the Internet adapted the Olympic logo to match with the theme colors in the Young Women organization.

For the treats for our New Beginnings (Olympic themed) program, we made mini cupcakes and frosted them to match this logo. I didn't bake the cupcakes, but I made the frosting and Nathan helped me figure out how to arrange the cupcakes. (We did a trial run with poker chips.) I got a little confused on the bottom row of circles so it didn't turn out quite right, but I think we did pretty well.

The frosting is buttercream frosting. I did half vanilla and half almond flavoring. I found room in my grocery budget to splurge on almond extract, since I'd been dying to try it out.

They look fabulous! I don't suppose there were any leftovers . . . The icing sounds really good - I love almond extract.
